“I consider one’s art an extension of one’s life. My work—whether painting, sculpture, writing, or performance—is a visual and written translation of my experiences, emotions, the people I have encountered, and the world as I have lived it.”

Louise Cutler is a multidisciplinary artist, sculptor, curator, and cultural organizer based in Colorado. Her work centers on stillness, presence, care, and the human experience, expressed through simplified, faceless forms that invite reflection and emotional connection. Working across painting and bronze sculpture, Cutler creates pieces that function as quiet spaces—offering moments of calm, introspection, and personal meaning.

Her practice extends beyond the studio into curatorial and community-driven work. She is the founder of the Beauty of Blackness Fine Art Show, an annual exhibition and cultural platform dedicated to celebrating and elevating Black and African American artists. Through this and other initiatives, Cutler creates opportunities for visibility, dialogue, and connection within communities where representation has historically been limited.

Cutler’s work is informed by both personal experience and global study. She has traveled extensively, visiting major cultural and artistic centers including London, Paris, Rome, Vienna, Egypt, Turkey, India, and West Africa—reflecting her ongoing pursuit to engage directly with the works of the masters while continuing to develop a visual language that is distinctly her own.

Her work has been featured in Art Business News, Art World News, Edge of Faith, and Beyond Words Magazine, and she was recognized as one of Art Business News’ “Top Emerging Artists.” Her painting Alone was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in London. Her work has been exhibited nationally in institutions and galleries including the Museum of Science and Industry’s “Black Creativity” exhibition, the DuSable Museum of African American History, the Museum of Art Fort Collins, the Museum of Boulder, Sculpture in the Park, Stola Contemporary Art Gallery in Chicago, and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. Her work is held in private collections across the United States.

In addition to her studio practice, Cutler is actively expanding her curatorial work. She has contributed to numerous community-based projects, including serving as a featured artist for Colorado State University’s “Social Justice Through the Arts” program, curating A Culture Preserved in the Black Experience at the Museum of Art Fort Collins, and participating in cultural initiatives such as the Fort Collins Juneteenth Celebration. She has served on the board of the Gregory Allicar Museum of Art at Colorado State University and is currently curating upcoming exhibitions with the museum for 2026, as well as with the Museum of Art Fort Collins for 2027.

Cutler’s work is rooted in the belief that art is an extension of one’s life. She is drawn to stillness. Her figures are intentionally simplified and faceless, allowing form, gesture, and space to carry the emotional weight of the work. By removing identity, she creates room for the viewer to enter the piece—to reflect, to project, and to find their own sense of presence within it. Her sculptures and paintings explore themes of care, connection, solitude, and inner strength. Acts such as holding, gathering, tending, and standing become visual language. Much of her work moves between two and three dimensions, with bronze sculptures often emerging directly from her paintings. Ultimately, she describes the work as an offering: a moment of stillness in a fast-moving world, a place to rest, and a reminder of the quiet strength within us all.
